Before we start with the topic, “Ann; May I know why are you interested in it?”
“Ann – Umm, I am thinking of a start-up and with the increasing competition for my product/service, I would like to know more about how
Google is helping in reaching the right audience?”
Interesting!
To begin with, let me tell you about:
What is Google Search?
Google Search is a search engine portal that offers the
accurate content or automated information you are looking for on the Internet.
Above is a basic representation that will give an idea of Google
Search Engine workflow.
Explaining it with an example, if a user types a search for “best
SEO service near me,” then Google’s computer-programmed algorithm will dictate all
those websites that adhere to the
Google Webmasters Guidelines and rank them in the Search Engine Results Pages.
Hey, I would also suggest you take a look at the latest podcast
session uploaded by Google Search Central and features John Mueller

Next, let us dig a bit deeper into Google Search Engine
optimization!
Firstly, let’s understand what are the types of Google
Search results:
1- Organic, Search engine result pages
This is a free way to reach a relevant audience by offering content
as per Google Webmaster guidelines.
2- Paid, Search engine result pages
This is where you’ll have to pay for the Google advertisements service that is promoted throughout the Google Display Network.

How does Google’s organic search engine work?
Crawling
Here Google’s crawlers/Googlebot/RankBrain (automated programs) constantly look up for pages that are new or optimized. They then
store those page URLs/addresses in a big list of known pages.
Indexing
After crawling, Googlebot will start indexing the page. Meaning,
it will read, understand the content of the page along with its images and video
files embedded. Such information is then stored in Google Index- a huge
database stored on multiple computers.
Displaying search engine result pages (SERPs)
Depending on the user’s search, for example, if the keyword
used is “best hosting service” you’ll get a list of brand websites or resource pages
that offer high-quality results as per Google’s Webmasters guidelines.

Ann:
“Does Google ads work the same way as organic search results?”
Nice Question!
So, Google Ads,
formerly known as Google Adwords is an online advertising platform where you
will need to pay for the search results. Launched in 2000, Google Adwords will
allow you to bid for your brand’s display advertisement.
When you search for specific information and land on a
site for information, you may have noticed many pop-ups reflecting on the
search engine result page. Those are the Google display advertisements that are
shown throughout the Google Display Network, including mobile applications, also
known as mobile apps.
Google also showcases Ads in the search engine page results
above the organic search results.
For example, if a user searches for “SEO content marketing
services in the United States,” you can see a search engine result that
reflects as an Ad mention next to the website URL. This is also where
Google reflects its display advertisement:
Google ads also known as Google Display Ads are based on the
cookies and keywords used by the users.
Ann:
“Wow, sounds interesting to me. I am so excited to learn more about the Google algorithm but I guess it's enough for now.
I'll come up with another
Question someday soon.
Sure, Ann!
